Joline El-Hai, a longtime resident of Seattle, is the artist and owner
of Bella Luz Studio. Since 1989 she has been a member of the colorful
Artwood Studios community in Seattle.
With a background in stage set design, Joline crafts miniature stages
from copper, into which she mounts colorful reproductions of her art.
"My work is filled with a sense of movement, rich coloring and bold,
detailed imagery of a darkly mysterious and narrative quality. A
gardener with deep roots in the earth, the drama and intimacy of the
natural world often inform my designs. Inspired by travels to West Africa,
I am fascinated with masks and enjoy creating faces and creatures that
